Love my hats but have struggled to find a sun hat pattern I like. I came across a Japanese web site with a hat that I thought I could get away with.. It is crocheted using a type of 'paper yarn' that has some sort of wax coating on it.. The flower on the side I unfolded the paper to give the flower a daisy feel.. Was a good way to get back into crochet as I hardly ever pick up a hook these days.. must do something to alter that!!

It is as charming and perfect as can be for a summer sun hat. I am very intriqued with the "paper" yarn. Where did you find such a thing???

Thanks all . Carol Ann I shall have a good read of that article. Have started making another sun hat out of Jute.. may take a while as it's rather tough on the fingers!

Yikes, Manda! I love things made from jute but it IS very tough on my fingers! Good luck and I'll await a picture of the finished hat.

I went into my local yarn store today, and they had this paper yarn on their shelves (in japanese packaging and all!). I can't believe how stiff it was to the touch, i don't know if I would have been able to make such a lovely hat!

The paper yarn is quite stiff but it's not too bad to work with.. certainly not as bad as plarn.. tried that once and it ended up with me in a dreadful mood and the project in the bin lol
