I love my boys!!

A few months ago I reconnected with a friend from my childhood.  She is in her late 30's & her husband of 21 years has been fighting bad health for the last 10 yrs.  When we reconnected, he was down to 85 lbs and losing weight every day.  Sad to say, he passed away on July 5th & my heart ached for her.  I wanted to do something for her and kept thinking about how I wished we lived closer so I could give her some support.  Then I thought about how often she was in my prayers and I decided to make her a shawl while I was praying for her and so that whenever she needed a hug all she would need to do was wrap it around her shoulders and imagine her husband hugging her.  I went on a search and found a shawl that I liked - amazingly enough, the shawl was called "Best Friends Shawl".  I will be sending it to her shortly  - I hope she will like the colors.  On a side note, her daughter just gave birth to a little girl, so although it doesn't replace her having her husband by her side, it brings some joy to her life.  I'm going to try to make something for her granddaughter too.  Here is the shawl:

Oh, Pooh---what a touching story about you and your friend.  I am sorry for her loss but happy that you and she have reconnected.  Such a thoughtful and loving gift your shawl is for her.  I am sure she will treasure it.  It is BEAUTIFUL!!!!  What yarn (kind and color name) did you use?  It is perfect.  Is the " Best Friends" pattern for free online?  I am about to go search for it.  If I cannot find it perhaps you could share the pattern (?)  Update:  I just found it!  Grin

Thanks & I'm glad you found it.  The yarn I used is Caron Simply Soft Paints and the color is called Oceana.  I bought it at Walmart.  I think the pattern would look much better in a solid color but I still liked the way this turned out.

I knew it had to be some kind of "ocean" color name.  I love the blend of the blues and greens.  I also suspected that it might be Caron ---  with that silky soft sheen.   Grin  A solid would certainly show off the actual pattern more but I think your shawl is just right and I am sure that the pattern shows up more in person than it does in the picture.  You made perfect choices all the way around.   Wink
