A little over a month ago a friend at work asked me if I could recreate his daughters "blankee" which is literally falling apart.  I said I'd take a look and see if I could.  He sent me this photo of the original:

And brought me a scrap that had fallen off to work from. Here is the scrap:

I found the pattern, a basic mile-a-minute pattern. (http://web.archive.org/web/20070624143119/http://www.caron.com/projects/cs/pro_cs_milemin.html)
We picked out yarn, substituting purple, her favorite, for what used to be peach. It is Bernat Baby Softee & an H hook.
Here is the finished new blanket:

I think it turned out well.  I hope she likes it.
It has of course renewed my vow never to make anything that has to be sewn together.  I have no idea why they call these mile-a-minute, I don't think they are that fast and the joining is torture!!!!

I've never been a MAM fan either but they do work up beautifully AND YOURS IS NO DIFFERENT! Great job. I bet his jaw dropped.

Lovely. And thanks for the info. I've never made anything MAM, but now I know not to try one for a quick present.

Picture perfect!  Lovely work and the colors set off with the white is just right.  Your friend should be knocked out with delight.

Ok that is waaaaay better than the original one!  Good work!

So funny, I love sewing together!  But weaving in all the ends....oh that part I hate!

Thanks all.

She's 8 so her blankee has seen a lot of use . . . love . . drool. . . etc.  I am sure it was nice when it was new.  I am taking it to the Dad at work today, we'll see what he thinks.

how very nice - and I say it looks very similar to the original - I'm sure she will love it - she can use it when she plays with her dollies!  Great job!

I went back to work today after a week on vacation.  I had the most adorable thank you note from Olivia, the little girl who got this blanket.  She said she loves it and sleeps with it every night, and loves that it is so colorful!!

Her Dad said she put the old blanket away with her "special stuff" and they haven't seen it since, she has fallen in love with the new one, it is "pretty & snuggly".
