I made one last night, out of yarn just to see if I liked it.

The only thing I don't like is it seems to be too big, but my hubby said No it's just right.  And another thing I don't like is the edging doesn't lay flat, kinda curls up and down and in.

What do you think, should I try the same pattern again, but this time in crochet thread, mayber using 2 strands of thread at once?

I do like the pattern except for the edging.

Nutty that turned our really pretty and the color is very pretty.  I do know what you mean about the edges though.  I personally would want it to lay flat since it is a placemat.  Hmmmm.  Maybe it would lay flat with thread.  Can you wet it and then pull it to make it flat?

Well being yarn, it probably wouldn't help much, but I did manage to get some thread out and hopefully it will lay flatter.  I put a plate on it, and still thought it was big, but Rick said by time you get silver wear and glasses it won't be so big looking.
When I get the thread one done I will post that one too.
