Heads Up!  Walmart is running a clearance sale on a number of yarns and threads.  Most of the Bernat and Aunt Lydia and assorted other brands.  Some really good prices.  Apparently they are revamping their entire craft and needlework department.  Shelves were being emptied like crazy and boxes of new stock were waiting to be put on the shelves.  They are going to carry alot more Caron Simply Soft (hooray).  Expect a whole new look in that department.  Happening at ALL Walmart stores!

Unfortunately, this is may not be a good thing.  Watch out.  They just finished revamping one of our stores and now have very little yarn of any kind.  The craft section is only a small aisle now.

We have 2 other stores that still have the larger supplies, and one still has fabric too.  I'm afraid that they'll all reduce it down to nothing though.

I hope they do add some new yarns and that, but so far I'm not happy with the revised store.

I have heard that Walmart's was going to do away with a lot of their crafts, I hope not.  Their prices are much better than Michael's who has gone up on their yarn.  JoAnn's doesn't carry much yarn selection and there are no other places convenient to me that carry yarn.  I have been buying a good bit of my yarn on the internet from Knitting-Warehouse.  They have good prices, when on sale, and the shipping cost is not bad.  Generally receive my order within 5 days and have not been disappointed with the yarn.

I heard the same about my local Wal-Mart. I'm wondering if that the reason why they set up a clearance section with all types of yarn and crochet related items. I plan to keep an eye on it, waiting for the price to drop a little more. Right now prices are from 2.00 - 3.50.
Yesterday I picked up a couple of large  hooks one for .40 and one for 1.00, then I forgot to take it out of the basket for check out..... Roll Eyes. When I got home I wonder where they went until I checked my receipt.... Roll Eyes......l0l

I'll have to check out my walmart next time I go..it's been a few weeks since i've been in that section as the last time I bought yarn was online.........otherwise, I usually get it at walmart.  I'll be really disappointed if they do away with the craft section since there is nothing else close enough to me to buy my yarn............

Undecided  I, too, am nervous about the real outcome of the yarn / thread supplies.  I had an instant meltdown when I was in my local Walmart yesterday and saw so much clearanced and bare shelves.  (This is NOT a big department to start with in this particular store.  I have to shop downstate Walmarts in the "Big Cities" 4 hours away to find any satisfactory selection of type, color and quantity).  The "regular girl" assured me there would still be yarns and threads, etc. and pointed to the carts and boxes of newly arrived stock.  They were mostly clearing out the specialty high priced low-sellers.  I have to trust her for now, I guess, but am still borderline panic.  JoAnns in my area has a bit more yarn but is 1.00 and up more per item.  Meijers is about the same as Joanns.  So, I am in a similar boat with most of you and WORRIED.  At least we can still get a lower price on the cleance stuff and then hope for the best.

My sister told me that the Wal Marts in the Pittsburgh area were putting the DMC floss on sale at 10 cents, which normally runs 25 cents at Wal Marts.  I have also noticed that the Super Wal Marts carry a lot less crafts, especially yarns, than the older Wal Marts that do not have the grocery side of the store.  Looks like we'll be left to the 'sepcialty' craft and yarn stores from now on.

Mental Note: if there is an AC Moore near you, they tend to have some good prices on yarn.

No AC Moore Stores anywhere where I live!  Big Sigh.  Strange about the "Super" WalMart stores----the one I went to just this week (near Detroit) showed NO SIGNS of any changes in the department and no clearanced yarns and threads.  They have a fabulously big selection.  Came home to my little Walmart in the north woods of MI and they had been cleaning house for several days!  I wonder how long it will be before we all know what the end of the story turns out to be. Huh  (Even my could care less about crochet husband is saying WalMart CAN'T cut that department when he saw the look of dismay on my face)!   Cheesy

I was at WalMart this morning, went through the yarn area and "wow" lots more yarn and thread.  I couldn't believe it, where before they had the side of one aisle yarn and the other side a small amount of thread.  Today where the thead was it had about a half aisle of yarn from top to bottom and a lot more thread.  It has never been like this since they built this new store here.  Yipee!   I live in the north western part of South Carolina.  Hope your Walmarts are getting ready to have a big supply of yarn and thread.  I don't think Walmart realize have many crocheters and knitters there really are in the world.  Plus there are a lot of quilters and quilting clubs.  I love to quilt but haven't recently.

Wahoo! for all of you who are finding an EXPANDED yarn and threads (sewing and crafts, too) department at Walmart!  I won't be able to get to my local Walmart for at least a few more days.  I was promised a "new, improved" section at my store but I will have to see it with my own eyes!  I read on another forum that a Walmart in New Jersey that never carried yarn at all now has a HUGE department for it.  This is encouraging!  Grin Grin Grin  OK!  My little Walmart craft /sewing/ needlework department is STILL THERE!  Only expanded a tiny bit BUT lots more yarns and threads!!!  Still carrying some Bernat but lots more Redheart and Lion and Caron.  Many more colors and types in those brands.  The thread supply is much improved and much more of the Lily Cotton yarn in MANY more solid and variagated colors!!!!  Also many more 1 lb. cones in the assorted colors.  (Michael's STILL is NOT stocking Lily Cottons in the cones, and their prices on everything has gone UP except for a sale of Lion Homespun at 2 for 8.00....which is the best price I have found).  Hooray for Walmart!  I am one Happy Hooker Grin

I'm also a happy hooker... I went today to my walmart and the red heart yarn has expanded and has many more colors AND the price of a 7 oz skein has gone down!!!  It was $2.17 a skein and is now $1.98!!!  i was pleasantly surprised..so I bought 6 skeins!  Like Carol ann's walmart, there is more lion brand yarn and bernat yarn as well.  I was very happy, it made my day!

Thanks for mentioning that the prices on the Redheart at Walmart went DOWN, Bende!  Forgot that important tidbit in my last post.  ALSO, The Caron Simply Soft was down 20 cents and the Lily Cotton Yarn Cones was cheaper, too! Grin
