I just got back from my weekly walmart/grocery shopping trip and I was so excited!!  They had the caron simply soft yarn for $1.50 each (one actually rang up $1.00) and bernat baby yarn was $2.50 (instead of the usual $3.27).  I got some of each

Shocked  Shocked  Shocked  I am due for a trip to WalMart soon.  I hope those prices are at my store!  With my luck---the yarns will be sold out by the time I get there!   Undecided Tongue

Wow how nice, I just got back from my weekly shopping and my Wal-Mart is still an upside down mess.  I found body spray in the toy isle  Roll Eyes after looking way to long for it.

My store is a mess too........and the yarn section is dwindling ever so slowly and that doesn't make me happy!!!  The clearance on the yarn made me wonder if it's going away and they are trying to get rid of it faster........I sure hope not!!

Shocked Roll Eyes Your fault Bende!  Hubby broke out in a cold sweat when he rounded the corner of the craft dept. at WalMart and saw my shopping cart loaded with yarn and thread and cotton cones.  I HAD to do it.  Yes, the Bernat (some of it) and all of the Caron SS was on sale and HAD to be purchased...what little was left of anything in yarns and threads.  Yes, after talking to the dept head, WalMart is dropping some of the Bernat lines and also all of the Caron SS.  Much of the existing RH lines are going but they have brought in some new Redheart stuff.  RH Fiesta is one and twice the price of the "regular" or super saver for the same # ounces.  It is nice, and soft, so it probably is replacing the Caron SS.  Fabric at my store will be GONE in a week to a month.  Still no definitive word as to how much, if any, yarns and threads and coned cotton will remain.  Most likely it will all go between winter and Spring.  Our store is a MESS and construction for Super Walmart has begun.   Get this!  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes  The fishing section of the Sport Dept. has been cut in half to make space for more groceries.  Reason:  There are NO LAKES in our area!  HUH!?  Our Store is a few blocks from Lake Michigan and there are creeks and lakes and rivers (hundreds) that feed into each other and into the Bay of Lake Michigan.  Me thinks the people at the top at Wally World need a real shaking up! Angry   Maybe they ran into a brick wall of the Super Center addition and had ALL their sense knocked out of them. Tongue Never made it to JoAnn's in time to try to find more thread and colors (at a much higher price, of course). Cry    p.s.  My Walmart has been one of the top selling craft / fabric/ yarn & threads dept's. in the entire country, monthly, for years!  The clerks are mystified and mad as to the close-out...except they were told "food sales make more money".

OOOOHHH, that's what I was afraid of...well, if there's more yarn next week, i'm going to stock up on all I can since here in the boonies..there's nowhere close by that I can buy my yarns!!!!  I guess I will have to resort to buying online.  I  haven't seen any signs of our store adding groceries so there's no excuse for them to be taking my craft section away!

Thanks for that info carol ann!

Glad to inform you and others as to the demise of the yarns and the reason for the sales.  There was so little left of the Caron SS and I bought it all for the 1.50 ea.  As for the regular Wal Marts vs. the Super Walmarts---even the regular Wally's are losing their fabrics and crafts and many  or most or all regular stores will be changing to super stores in the future...according to my store manager and craft dept. manager. Sad Cry  Some of the Super Centers will still carry very basic "craft" items and a small (useless) amount of yarn and thread in the "usual" colors and neutrals.  For the mostpart our supplies will be replaced with the "Celebrations" Dept. which encompasses party planning and supplies.  Good Grief!  There are plenty of Hallmark Stores and discount party supply places for all THAT shopping.  AC Moore and JoAnn's and Michael's and Hobby Lobby will be raising prices even higher without the competition from WalMart. Carol,
Sound like ya'll guys could use a Bass Pro Shop. Well Thanks goodness  for Internet shopping and e-bay. I never liked the thought of paying shipping cost until my hubby pointed out the price of gas to drive 100 miles round trip (to nearest craft store) not to mention the extra money I would spend on other stuff I would see and couldn't live without  Cheesy and would use maybe once  Grin.  I must admit last year doing my Christmas shopping on the Internet and having it all delivered to my door without the hassle of crowds, lines at the store and putting up with traffic was nice. I am afraid your are going to be right about higher prices without Wal-Mart competition Angry

Where we could post ads and pictures of materials, patterns, and other craft items to be sold or swapped? Kinda like an online flea market...lol Cheesy...Just a thought...I tend to have few of those  Cheesy

Hi
I too found the sale at Walmarat and sent an email to Caron yan.
They sent an email back tome.
They are going to selling a different kind of yarn at Walmart now.
Simply Eco
They say it is soft like SS. But with Walmart going green they want a earth friendly yarn to sell.

I did some checking online about it. But could not find anything.

I did pickup some of the sales yarn at Walmart.

Hope that helps some.
