Went to a WalMart in a different town (an hour North of me).  What a bummer.  Yarns and threads were so-so and nothing red stickered.  I guess WalMart no longer carries any of the RedHeart Baby yarns!!!  No Baby Sport or Baby Econo, etc.   Angry Tongue Cry  I have not seen any at any of their stores for months now.  I am SO bummed about that!   I did make it to a Big Lot and though the limited bit of yarns they did have was only a dollar  for a 1.75 oz skein most of it was pretty yucky.  I did find some white fingering yarn though.  Dollar Store in the same town had a regular bonanza of the most scrumptious colors of Patons eyelash and fun fur type skeins for only (LOL  a buck, of course) and some Patons soft pale Blue baby fingering yarn ("Lacette").  No luck with ribbon yarn but I can never seem to find a color of that I like anyway.  BTW, the fun fur and eyelash (SAME EXACT THINGS) at WalMart were 3.28 !

A lot of WalMarts have stopped selling yarn, thread, embroidery floss, etc. One around me has. They're only selling "already made" stuff. Walmart is evil

My Wal-Mart has finished remodeling and the yarn section is very small now. Actually the whole craft section is small, about 1/2 of the isle where it used to be it's own department - no more material. The Red Heart 7oz super saver has gone up and additional .20 cents (2.49), the variegated is the same price but are 5 oz skeins. As far as other yarns very very limited. I also notices no more small packages of beads. They had a couple of contains with assorted beads. Anyways I was able to purchase the color of yard I wanted to make my shawl after I finishes Christmas stuff. Then after that I plan to use all that I can out of my stash and left overs. The only thing I hate about ordering online is that I will need to do a large order and hope I get enough of each to complete any project I may want to do.

I am hearing you loud and clear, Lisa!  My "own" WalMart (closest to me---not the one I went to last weekend) was still having discount prices on the older stock (Redheart specifically and some of the original Caron SS) but once gone is not being re-stocked.  Everything else has gone up in price and the newest stock (new Redheart and Vanna's Choice) is much higher.  All cotton and threads are higher priced and less quantity.  They keep promising our fabrics / yard goods will remain and they actually said they will keep the beads.  The renovation will not be complete until next June so it will be awhile yet before anyone knows for sure what we end up with for selction and prices.  It is still better than the other stores (prices) and better than online ordering (prices)  BUT I am so disgusted that they dropped all Redheart and Bernat Baby yarns!!!!

I couldn't believe it...today I went to a Walmart that I never go to. We have 5 in my city. Well this one still has a fabric section. It's not huge but it's there. They have yarn...mosty Red Heart and Bernat. They have bags of mill ends, which I love. They have an aisle of beading items and then an aisle of scrapbooking. I was very happy as I brought home 2 pound bags of Handicrafter cotton and 2 bags of mill ends.  Grin
Now that I know about that location I will be visiting them whenever I can't find what I want at my Walmart of Michaels.

I went to my local Wal-mart this morning and talked to a saleslady who was marking up the price on I believe it was Caron's Simply Soft from 2.28 to 2.47! I asked her if the yarn and stuff was gonna be around much longer and she told me she wasn't sure ,that the store  had canceled a remodeling, don't remember just when she said, but also that by Feburary they had plans on getting rid of all the fabric, she told me the store was more interested in adding stock to the electronics and sporting goods dept.
She told me that since Mrs.Walton passed away the the younger family members did not feel that there was much interest in fabric and yarns etc.! It was Mrs.Walton's pride and joy for the craft and fabric dept. to begin with.
The saleslady told me that she told someone? that she couldn't believe there was no interest in fabric and so on because she said she sees the number of sales and she says its alot!
They built a new Super walmart about 25 miles from me and she said that store kept the craft dept.

Seems like more and more the craft dep't people are sharing info with the customers about the demise of the dep't and it all sounds much the same.  And, it always sounds like the people are as much in the dark as the customers as to what is REALLY going to happen.  MY local Walmart has CUT the electronics and sports dept in half!!! and is dropping all of the fishing gear!  Good Grief!  This whole area is a fisherman's mecca!  What ARE they thinking!?  Of course the answer is always, " we need room for the food items and food makes more money".  Yet another corporate leadership that has deviated from the original efficiency and sincere intent to serve the people FIRST, BEST AND ECONOMICALLY.  Sigh.  (Not a political statement---just an astute observation).

I'm curious to see what i'll find at my walmart on saturday.  But the idea I had awhile back, but forgot to come back and mention it is that smileys has alot of yarn and really good prices, the only thing is they require a $50 (i think it was $50) minimum order........so I thought I'd ask you all what  you would think if we all had some yarn we wanted to buy, one person could order it all up and each individual would pay their shipping........any thoughts on that idea?
