Hi all,
My names Laura and I am new to crochet.
I looked at the showcase posts and I was blown away by the lovely work x
I hope one day I can make blankets etc... right now I am struggling on the simplest of things like holding the wool with the right tension etc!
Anyway, just thought I would say hi

Hi, Laura! So glad you joined in and hoping you visit often. We were all newbies once so keep hooking and you will be making blankets and other lovely items before you know it. (winking my eye at you since the smilies seem to have vanished again). The right / even tension will come with practice. The more relaxed you are, and rested, and not overly worried about other things the more consistent your tension will be. We all have our tension change from time to time.

Welcome! Always feel free to ask questions, most of us probably had the same questions when we learned. Don't worry about tension, concentrate on practicing the stitches, like on a scarf or something small without a lot of detail, just rows of stitches. Once you feel confident and relaxed doing the stitiches the tension with even itself out. Your project may not be pretty, but it will be loved anyways. My other recommendation for a first/practice project, use cheap yarn, if you have to rip out repeatedly or get a tangled mess & take the scissors to it, you'll feel less guilty abusing cheap yarn.
We look forward to seeing your posts & any projects you want to share!
Lara

Welcome Tweedy. You have definately come to the right place, everyone here is so helpful. I started to crochet just over a year ago, and as i know noone that can teach me face to face the wonderful ladies here answered all my questions and looked at pictures to figure out what i was doing wrong! As Carol Ann said the tension issue will come with practice. When i started I would envy the beautiful straight edges on others work! So pleased you have found us!....xxx
