Hello,

I'm new.
I love, love, love crocheting. My Grandma taught me to knit when I was lilttle and so I did that on and off for years. About 18 months ago I thought I'd try crocheting and taught myself with the aid of a great book and the knitting's gone out the window really.

I usually make things up as I go along- mainly hats, fingerless gloves, bags, that kind of thing. The first thing I made was a simple blanket from a basic square that I just kept making bigger and bigger. I gave it to my Grandma just before she passed away and she really liked it (my Mum has it now). The book I used to learn only taught different stitches and contained no patterns. I have recently tried my hand at a few patterns in books I've bought/been given. I'm working up to something more adventurous so thought maybe it would be a good time to join a friendly forum for help and encouragement along the way.

Its great reading other people's post and everyone seems so lovely.
Thanks for reading my first post!  Wink

Welcome to the group!!

What a lovely story, we are a bunch of crazy but friendly crocheters.  You have a nice mix here of pattern readers, chart readers, & people who just wing it, so feel free to ask any questions, someone will be able to help.

Look forward to seeing your posts & some of your completed projects!!

Thanks so much for replying!! I'm really excited.

I forgot to mention I'm from the UK so I have to be careful with the differences in "lingo" but I'm used to that now.
I'm just crocheting a hat for my husband now and only the thought of replies were exciting enough to make me put it down!

Hello and welcome!  I tried to teach myself to knit, but no such luck on that one.  I did teach myself to crochet, which I found much easier.

Thanks again everyone!

I've been a bit slack with replying as my husband has been really unwell. He loved his hat though and has certainly needed it. I will get him to pose with it on and the scarf I made too.

While we were at the hospital last night I crocheted another hat. This our neighbours' baby with teddy bear ears. He's so cute I will get a pick of him too.

I'm also going to get more active on the forum! It's so great!
