I am new to crocheting and I am so green.  I have joined to get some help, so please, please, please email me with any helpful hints!  I found this free pattern for a Granny throw blanket at Premier Yarns and I want to make it for a few people for gifts.  Can anyone help me understand the instructions?  What does working in rounds/"project worked in rounds".  Does that mean I should treat it like a granny square?  I'm watching youtube videos and I can get through the first part ring and double crochet and then I am lost...

Here is the link to the pattern:

<http://www.premieryarns.com/patterns.php?id=92>

Please let me know what I need to do/watch to move on to the next steps.

Thanks so much!
Julie

Julie, Hi and welcome to the forum. I visited the site and saw a few throws using granny squares. Could you list the name of the one you are interested in?  It would be easier to help you with the "working in the round" There are a couple schools of thought on that term.

Hi Julie  - Welcome!!

I emailed you a page from my beginning crochet book (which I refer to often) that defines & explains working in rows & working in rounds.

This is from the book "I Can't Believe I am Crocheting" by Leisure Arts.  I bought it years ago and refer to it often.  If looking for a good beginning book I'd recommend this one, as I have to several friends wanting to learn.  I have seen it at several local Wal-Mart stores recently & I think it is only $7.  I know all this information is availbe for free on the web, but I like the fact that I can keep one little booklet next to where I crochet, or toss it in my travel bag & I have an easy resource.  I don't have to go to the web & search & filter through several different sites looking for what I want.

Good luck, keep asking those questions, we will help all we can.
