Hi, I'm Sheila. I'm left handed. I taught myself to crochet when I was cleaning out my mom's house, and found skeins and skeins of yarn. She was a buy-a skein-and-use-one-yard-of-it sort of person, and I profited! I have a pug who came close to death the day he jumped up and snapped my new carved wooden hook in half. I'm in the middle of making an afghan so large and heavy there's a chance I may end up like the lady in the commercial, "Help, I've crocheted and I can't get up!" I get bored in the middle of things, so I have plenty of UFOs. This place looks friendly and helpful. I've tried to knit, but I always seem to grow at least three new fingers and my fingers don't follow my brain's directions. So I decided to quit while I was ahead! Besides, you're supposed enjoy hobbies, right? All it did was make me tense. This way I have more time to crochet! And cook, I love to cook, but have no one to cook for but me. I'm a widow, age 59 years, and no children. Two cats, one dog, and enough hair to make a sweater for each pet! Hope to learn stuff here; already have picked up some good pointers and patterns, and gotten good answers to questions I had.

How nice to get to know you better Sheila.  Grin  Ha!  I was (still am) the same way about knitting but I am making progress.  I really like to switch off to the knitting when I am getting too carried away (some would call it obcessive compulsive) with my crochet projects.  With knitting I choose really easy stuff that I think will relax me.  (and BTW---Bende's Knit Happy Forum is as good as this one and some of the same people are there, too.  They have been such fun and so helpful with my knitting).  With crochet I keep looking for new techniques or pattswith directions that change every row / round so that I do not get bored.  BRAVO for you to have taught yourself and use up your Mom's yarn stash!
