Haven't been to my walmarts "yarn section" since they downsized, but Friday, I had to go over to get some buttons...well.....................I couldn't believe it, the  yarn section has expanded!!  I was pleasantly surprised.  However, I couldn't find any buttons, so I asked the clerk where the buttons were, she said "we don't carry buttons anymore"..........I couldn't even believe it!!!   Here they have yards and yards of material for sewing and all kinds of ribbon and other crafty things..but no buttons?Huh  Has the same happened to your Walmart?

Well that is nutty, all of our WalMarts no longer carry any crafts, just a small isle of kiddie type crafts, no yarn, no fabric, no anything.  it stinks.  I have to travel 40 min to go to joanns.

40 minutes to get to A.C. Moore, and 30 to Michael's. Undecided Guess there are less people that need stuff like that.

Wellllll.......I have not seen any improvement or expansion of the yarns at the 3 different WalMarts that are in my neighborhood.  In fact, there seems to be less yarn than before BUT at least they still HAVE yarn.  I was shocked to discover that all 3 of the stores (here in Western KY) STILL HAVE a fabrics / sewing materials section because my stores back home in MI closed out all of that department.  I have seen a few packages of specialty buttons for sewing on kids' clothes but nothing else for buttons in general other than a card or two of mixed sizes of plain white buttons.  WHO does the ordering for the stores when they supply sewing supplies but no buttons!?!  GOOD GRIEF!  For any "real" sewing, needlework and craft shopping I have to drive about 40 minutes to a Michaels or Hobby Lobby and pay the ever increasing prices.  In my very rural area the basic items like buttons and zippers and threads and fabrics and yarns are as necessary to the average wife/mother/grandmother/housekeeper as are the most necessary food staples like flour, cornmeal, potatoes and beans!

My Walmart is being renovated...hopefully they expand the yarn aisle.
I can't remember seeing buttons or fabrics here...they have been getting rid of them slowly and methodically. They do sell sewing machines  Undecided

I don't know when....but, one of the Walmarts in my area has returned the yarn and patterns. A limited amt of crochet thread and some fabrics and notions. Nothing to set the world afire but maybe it's a start. I'm hoping we did our jobs letting them know that these items are very much a money maker for them!

Two of our our local walmarts(the one by home and the one by work) cut out fabrics recently and yarn selection is limited.  One still has a fairly large fabric selection.  It always had more than the two, but it is the walmart I like going to least, it is still in town, but out of my way and filled with a collection of freaks, weirdos and human oddities.

They had buttons last I looked, but most were on clearance.
I didn't check the store with fabric, but the one by my house doesn't have velcro, I was looking for a velcro for a craft project and they had none, I ended up at Joann's,
While I think our town is fairly small town, we do have Walmart, Joann's, Michaels, & Hobby Lobby all on the same strip.

I'm out in the boonies, so i will have to travel 45 minutes to a michaels to get a few buttons!!!  Oh well...I have a day or 2 off coming up in Sept. might as well make a day of it.   Pick out a few patterns and get all the  yarn I need while I'm there!  That could be trouble.......any ideas on how I can conceal a bunch of yarn when I get home!   Cheesy

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy  Yeah, right, Bende!  I have never been too successful in that department (stealthy concealing of yarn).  Maybe you could tuck it in a corner in the garage and go sneak it in the house when everyone has gone to bed / sleep.  OR, you could just strut in the door and let the family see it  and if any comments are made just tell them to "get over it" and "live with it".  hahahahaha

I put it in the trunk and bring it in when no one is home, straight into a storage bin.  Hubby is too terrified to even open the yarn bins, so he has no idea what is old or new.

I don't mean to sound sexist (or whatever) but I bet the people doing the ordering are guys; both at Walmarts and grocerery stores the things you can't find are always the things guys would never think was necessary! (it's probably the same guys who design the ladies' rooms in public places)
