So I'm making a ripple afghan which I've said and feel like I repeat myself but don't want to be like what is this crazy lady  making lol. Anyway so I'm on row 9 and it's not pulled up into the shape yet.

should it start pulling up soon? It's just worrying me that it's not going to turn out..

It's my first one and the third time I've had to restart it. I've made sure that I'm doing everything how the pattern says and I am but wanted to be sure that everything is fine and it will work out ok.

please tell me it is b/c I can't restart this again.. Undecided

The shape starts coming together after the second row.  Are you counting your stitches to make sure you are hitting your peaks and valleys because this is what makes the afghan?  Are you following exactly what it says when you turn at the end of the row because if not this can throw the ripple way off.

The ripple is there and you can see it, it's not just as dramatic as it said it will be. more like a slight wave

I don't understand because in a ripple there is no slight wave.  A single crochet doesn't stand out like a double.  I have done both and I prefer the double for my ripples.  Also, I use several colors of yarn to make it stand out more.  Like changing colors every 10 rows or so.   I have also done a ripple using two strands of yarn instead of one.  Of course, the more rows you do, the more the peaks and valleys will stand out.

I hope this helps.  Can you post a picture of what you have done so far?

my husband is hooking up the printer(which i use to upload pictures) then i will when it's all together and hooked up. I'm using five different colors.

it looks like you are missing the skipped stitch in your valleys.

I don't see the peaks or valleys in your crochet and you are showing chains between each stitch and you don't do that in a ripple.

It is generally double crochet in the next 9 stitches, then like 3 doubles in next stitch then double crochet in the next 9 stitches, then skip 2 stitches and double crochet in the next 9 stitches.  The pattern repeats itself over and over and you have to count your stitches to make sure your peaks and valleys are right.    I don't think you are reading your pattern correctly.

Ripples are the hardest to learn and especially for a first afghan.  If you have someone close to you that crochets they could show you, I think you would understand better.  But from what I see you are doing it wrong.  Sorry.

It's a cluster ripple afghan.

The pattern is ch three, skip cluster, work cluster...3 times

ch 6

The pattern is ch three, skip cluster, work cluster...3 times

 then decrease then you repeat.

It's not like a normal double stitch one it's a cluster one

Maybe when you chain 3 skip cluster, then cluster 3 times you don't chain between these three clusters.  Without seeing the full pattern I really can't say other than what you have done so far doesn't show any peaks and valleys like the pattern picture does.  This must be a completely new design for ripples but I do see the peaks and valleys in the pattern picture.  I have put clusters in a ripple before but only like every 10 rows would you do a cluster row.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

I posted on a community I'm in and they said that it goes on top of the stitches not between them?

do you think so or how would you do it? I have no idea!

I just reallllly don't want to redo it for the fourth time and if I do I want to know for sure how to do it, you know?
