Forgive me for "crashing" your forum but I need to pick your collective brain.  I need a birthday gift for my son's girlfriend who is an avid crocheter. I looked on a few sites but quickly realized I had NO idea what I was looking at or for.   I'd like to spend around $100.  She is 27 and a fun and hip kind of girl.  I would be MOST grateful for any suggestions you could make.  Thanks!

Crochet is simply hooks, yarn & a pattern, most of us, especially an avid crocheter likely has a full set of hooks that is her favorite (and a back-up set that are not her favorite).  Patterns can be really subjective.

Well, what we need most is yarn and yarn someone else pays for is the best  Wink Yarn someone gives us and doesn't expect us to make something for them is awesome. Grin  However yarn is also really subjective, some people love acrylics, others plant fibers, others wools & animal fibers.   Not to mention color & weight.  An how much yarn you need is dictated by the pattern.

Have your son snoop at her yarn labels, if she uses Red Heart, Bernat, Lion, and several others, usually acrylics or blends a craft store gift certificate would be great, find the one with the best yarn selection.

If she has higher end yarns, wools, silks, etc (the brand names are extensive & vary by region) a gift certificate to a local yarn store would be better, they have better quality yarns and a gift certificate would allow her to buy the yarn she secretly desires but hasn't been able to justify buying.

Good luck!

I agree with LaraN.  A gift card to one of her favorite shops or to a small yarn shop that has all the specialty yarns would be really wonderful too.  I myself always yearn for the fabulous yarn but on my budget, not feasible.  A gift card/certificate is always a great way to go.  It might even give her the option of taking up some special classes that she might like also.

Thank you all very much.  I sent my son your suggestions and he will do a little snooping for me so we make sure she gets something she will love.  I really appreciate your input!  Smiley

that is so cool that she is an avid crocheter.  There aren't many in the younger generations.

agh, I guess I fall into the bernat/acrylic yarn category myself, I just can't afford more!

If you know what types of things she likes to crochet, subscriptions to crochet magazines might be nice as well.
