Do you have to pull your working yarn through all the previous koops, that was my problem.

I need to pull out an old project & try to edge it again.  It's been a while since I tried.

NO---your working yarn is always moving with you just like when making regular stitchs, stitch by stitch.  If I could get pixcaboodle to get back online I could post the few simple step by step pics I took.  They show clearly how easy and uncomplicated the process is.  Your working yarn is always moving with you and is only going to go through the loops of rnd 1 just one loop at a time as you are working each of those individual loops.  Rats!  It is so easy and it is making me nuts that I can't get the pics posted.  Maybe I am not explaining it well enough in words.

So you are just passing your hook through the chain of the previous row and pulling the yarn through as you do the stitch?

you are just pulling the (color 2) chain 3 through the loop space of rnd 1.  your working yarn will basically stay in back...where it would normally be...and you will do a sc in the next sc the normal way with the working yarn in the normal position.  Once you each do it you will understand and see it quite clearly.

wellllll now that I e-mailed....pix is back online so here is the picture tutorial for anyone else who is interested!
Step 1 shows the ch 3 is made.  Step 2 shows that I took the hook out
of the working yarn chain on the hook and put the hook from front to
back through the open space created by the ch3 of rnd 1.  Step 3 shows
where I hooked the working yarn chain and am bringing it back through
the same open space / loop of rnd 1 ---bringing it from the back to
the front.  Step 4 shows where I have now put the hook in the sc (next
stitch) of rnd 1 to lock in place the section of "twisted" or braided
chain 3 of color 2 that I just completed.  Step 5 just shows having
pulled the loop thru the sc of rnd 1 to make a sc in rnd 2 and Step 6
shows the completed sc and now you are ready to do it all over again
in the next loop of rnd 1.  I pulled up the loop spaces of rnd 1 so
you can see them better in the pics---and see the sc that follows each
loop space on rnd 1.  You can also see where the working yarn is as
you go through each step.

Thank you CarolAnn  I am going to try & sit down tonite with hook & yarn and follow along.

Just at first skim, you are working the chain of Round two around/over the chain/loop of round one and then stitching into the sc in round one.

Maybe that was my problem, I was trying to work the sc into the foundation row.

You are welcome.  Just follow the pics and the written step-by-step(s) and you will be amazed how simple it is.  (Yes, you are working the ch3 of rnd 2 over and then under and through the ch3 loop / opening of rnd 1 and doing a sc in the sc (from rnd 1) that follows the rnd 1 loop / opening).
