If anyone could help me - especially Nutty4crafts?!?  I need some help with your "rope edging" that you do on your round ripples.  You had told me how to do the 1st color- you said to ch3, sk 2ch sps, sc in next sp, but what do you do with the second color???  Thanks for any help!!!

Hiya I'm not sure if this is it?

But some people do call this a rope stitch, here's a video on it.

That stitch looks interesting but thats not it, if you look back on July 30, 2009 to a posting by Nutty4crafts called Finished Another, it's a round ripple, black and pink look at the edging - it looks like 2 colors twisted like a rope - that's the one I want, but thanks !

Nice video tutorial, Satin.  You are correct in that the tutorial does show what is known as the "rope stitch" and also known as the crab stitch and technically known as the reverse single crochet stitch.  I, too, have searched for the edging instructions based on what is being referred to in this thread / posting as the rope stitch and cannot find anything except what you have also found being called the rope stitch.  I did find a KNIT stitch process that looks like the edging on Nutty's round ripple but not a crochet technique.  Still searching.......

Grin Here are Nutty's instructions for her edging from an August 12, 2009 post:

On the edging you ch-3 and skip 2 dc's, then sc in next st. (still skipping 2 for the valleys) using one color., do that all the way around, join with sl st in first sc. (which when you start you join your main color with a sc in any st.
Then round 2 you join your second color in st to the left of your first sc in 1st round. (which would be 1 sc over from first one)  Ch-3, drop hook from stitch, insert
your hook in loop (ch-3 loop), then pick up your dropped ch-3 and sc in next sc from previous rnd.

Looks fun and easy peasy.  Looking forward to trying it.

Grin  Glad to have found the whole set of instructions because it is such a nifty edging and I want to use it, too.  Can't wait to see your next baby blanket, LV.  Any hints about colors or pattern....hmmmmmm?  Grin

I read, re-read and tried and tried and could NEVER get the edging to work.

Color one - no problem that is easy.  Color 2, never could figure out where to put my working yarn, ended up pulling it through the rope and after a few iinches it got really messy and I always ended up with a huge tangle.

Someone else try & see if it works, I love the look but feel like such an incompetent idiot that I can't do this.

Sure - it's gonna be mint green and white (nice neutral colors for either boy or girl) - its a pinwheel design - I have to make 52 pinwheels - and then sew those together - yuck  Tongue But I think that that edging will be perfect to finish it!

Lara - I agree with you - it sounds like it would definitely get tangled,  I think I'm gonna try to do them both as I go - maybe that will keep them from getting tangled.  Cross your fingers and hooks that that will work - haha Cheesy

LV --- your blanket sounds so nice.  Love the color combo.  I have used the same ones for several baby blankets when the baby being gifted was an unknown as to sex.  Perfect choice and always so pretty.  The edging should be perfect for your pattern.  Lara ---  I may be your twin sister in the incompetent department LOL when I give it a whirl.  Haven't had time for much needlework lately but maybe today or tomorrow I can grab hook and yarn and see what a tangle I can make of things.  Directions look easy enough and I can pretty well visualize it BUT .....  we'll  see.......

I'd feel much better if I wasn't the only idiot!!  But if I am I can live with that.

Nutty swore it was easy, but then she is "Nutty"!!

Grin Grin Grin  Yep!  It really IS easy! and such a cool effect.  Just worked a quick swatch.  It is as I had visualized and would FLY along IF you didn't have to keep taking the hook off of each ch3 (of second color) to pull it thru the loops from rnd 1.  Still, it does go quickly enough for such a neat finished edge.  (Thanks Nut for sharing this)!   Ok, Girls ---just remember you are working toward the front side of the work all of the time and your working yarn is always going to be in its standard / normal position.  When you do the ch 3 of color # 2 and then drop your hook from that same chain....stick your hook thru the center / opening of the next chain 3 loop of color 1 / rnd 1 ...hook goes through from front to back...and hook the loop w/working yarn of the ch 3 that is standing around waiting for you (LOL) and pull it back out (from back to front again) thru the same chain 3 loop of color 1 / rnd 1.  SC in the SC that is right there (next stitch from the loop you just worked thru) and repeat.    Will post pics shortly ( I hope).  Smiley

OK, I have step by step pics to post but pixcaboodle is down / offline for some reason so I will try photobucket or have to wait until pix is online again.
update:  well, like I have said in the past...I HATE photobucket.  will hope to get pics loaded in Pix sometime this afternoon or evening.
