Redheart wrap with slits--grrr!

Has anyone made this? It's really nice looking, but may be the one that drives me off the edge. The instructions say ch 43, hdc, turn - 42 hdc.
then: ch1, hdc in fst 14. (Center section is Fpdc and spaces which I have no problem doing. I've read that other people changed it to Fptr, so I might, too) It ends that row saying to hdc in last 14 hdc. No matter what I add anywhere, the last 14 come out as 18!

It also calls for a K hook, and that it will be 14" wide. I'm using an N. It looks a lot wider in the picture. I would post the pattern but it's a PDF and I'm not sure if they're copyrighted. It's Redheart Wrap with Slits WR1811.

I got it to work out OK, but I'm just doing it in my head, not with yarn & hook.

14     14 hdc
12     * fpdc, fpdc, 2hdc*   repeat 2 more times
  2     fpdc, fpdc
14     14 hdc
42 total

You should have 14hdc, then 4 of the fpdc crosses with 2hdc in between each cross, then 14hdc.

I think you mightonly be doing one repeat where it calls for two.  Two repeat of pattern = 3 total. 

If that's not your issue, then somehting else is going wrong.   Good luck!  Let us know if you need more help.
