New to Crocheting, But loving it!!!

Hi,
I just made the (Martha S) Home Coming poncho for my mother. She wants fringes, So I need help, How do I make easy full fringes and what yarn or suede do I use? :-/

For fringe, I use whatever color the poncho is and then all I do is cut yarn to like for example 8", then when I have enough, I fold like 6 or so in half and put the folded part through the stitch and do like a lark's head knot.
