I just started teaching myself the dc stitch today, I think I have the hang of it, but I think the sides of my piece look a little wonky.   Smiley

Does it look right?

It looks like you grew as you went up, were you counting?
Are you following a pattern at all?  Your turning chains count as a double crochet.
For example, if your row has 10 double crochets, when you go to the next row, chain three to begin, and that counts as your first double crochet.
Then, skip the first dc from the previous row (because your ch 3 goes with it) and dc in the next 9 dc.
In your next row do the same, and then when you get to the end of the row where your ch 3 is, your 10th dc will go in that top ch.

Hope that made some sense, it's late and I'm a little loop right now  Shocked

Yep---Sarah is correct.  You are growing as you go.  Can you see where your stitches are NOT lining up (one directly over the one below) because you are not using your ch3 (when you turn) as the 1st DC of the next row?  Also, I wonder if your tension is varying a bit, too.  That in itself is not he significant cause of the problem, though.  do you have a book wiht photos to look at and compare? or An online site or video to assist?  I'll post a link or 2 in just a minute...going to get them now.

Definitely a great try. You got the concept, but you are slanting. I'm not too advanced in the way to help you, but Carol Anne and Sarah have got it right.
