Hallo everyone,
I have just registered. I have been crocheting on and off since I was a kid, lately I discovered Irish crochet and I am having a hand at that, making simple things like flowers and learning the technique.

I love making mini 'things' like small crocheted keepsake bags etc and have just bought a lovely pattern for a crocheted heart sachet. I have finished it and it really is lovely but I have a problem with the last two rows; i'll try to explain the pattern and hope someone will help me out

the sachet has a shell border on both sides with some chain sts through which a ribbon will be inserted when the sachet is finished, the 'heart' filling stitch is a net stitch, the loops decrease by one each row and at the end of the heart  am left with a shell border on left, a loop stitch in the middle and a shell border on right. I think that to get a nice heart shape I should only have one shell stitch at the bottom but I have 2 instead and I really do not understand the pattern explanation on how to finish off . I type here what the pattern says for the last couple of rows...

" continue in this manner, having one loop less on each row until 1 loop remains. Last row, shell over shell, ch 3, skip next sp, sc in next loop, ch 3, 2 dc in sp of next shell, ch 1, sl st in sp of last shell made, ch 1, 2 dc in same shell where last 2 dc were made, ch 5, turn, sc in joining of last 2 shells. Break off."

Thank you for your help!

Hi, Rusty  Smiley  I am a pretty "visual" person so if you could post a picture of your heart sachet it would be helpful in understanding the directions that you posted.  I find that many heart shapes in crochet are not "perfect" hearts at the bottom center point.  They tend to be rounded.  Often and especially with openwork / net / filet patterns you will find the same thing (only more squared looking) at the top of the heart as well.  I usually work a heart edge / border pattern as it is written to see the results.  If I want a more true heart shape I adjust the shell pattern (sometimes a picot pattern) to do my own shaping.   I just count out the stitches and fiddle with it until it looks right to me.  Nothing wrong with that  Wink  Probably have been no help at all right now.  Hopefully a picture.....

You will need to use a photo host (there are many of them, online, and are for free with a signed up membership) to post pics on the Forum.  KEEP AND SHARE is the one that I use.  Google it online and you will get their link / home page.  Wink  ( I got your e-mail and picture and have replied).  Smiley
