Does anyone know how to do this - I am trying to make a winter hat for my daughter and it calls for fair isle crochet - I've done a search for this but can't find anything on crochet only knit.  I know it means to keep all the colors attached and drop the colors you aren't working on at the moment - but when I do it it doesn't seem to turn out very pretty - it is tighter than the rest of the hat, and the stitches are ugly looking.

Hey, LV...here is a link for starters:  http://cache.lionbrand.com/faq/344.html?www=1&language=

and here is a you tube video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x5l32aBW34

I don't know why the lionbrand link is not showing as clickable (on my computer screen) in this post.  You can google it by typing in "fair isle crochet" and it will be the first link that comes up.   Wink  You will want to look at it for sure.

Thanks Carol - I did see the Lionbrand one but the picture is kinda blurry to me, couldn't really see it up close.  The youtube one is great - THANKS - it at least shows me that what I did was correct - not sure I like the way it turned out or not, had trouble with the tension, having to deal with 2 strands at once  Tongue - may have to scrap that part of it and make it striped instead - haha - oh well we'll see how it works.  Thanks again!

Grin  Always glad to help!  Tension is the biggest issue, as you have already figured out.  As long as you know how to carry your yarns and change colors as-you-go then it will just take a bit more practice to ease up on the tension  Wink  I hate for you to scrap the fair isle because I want to see the finished product!
