I'm going to make  Aran-design baby afghans for my twin girl cousins-to-be-born. I need help deciding if they should be colored or Aran (off white). Don't a lot of babies get washed out by yellow? Wouldn't Aran be kind of like that? I'm thinking Aran might be too harsh for babies. I thought about buff, but that seems too somber. What are your ideas?

I would use mint green, or the aran.

I myself like to use bright colors and make them a little longer than an average "baby" size.  This way they can use them into preschool  and if they are like my kids, they continued to use them forever as lap warmers.

You can always use Aran and alternate with other colors if you'd like ... don't be afraid to be different and give them something no one else will (you can only have so many light pastel blankets/afghans)

I figured it out--and I'm sort of doing everything you said! I found a nice RHSS called Soft White Fleck. It's white yarn with burgundy and sky blue and dark green flecks. Not too babyish to use later, but not too "grown-up looking" for now. The afghans are Aran so I think that color will work. (I'm working on a prototype just to make sure it comes out right, but I think my pug doesn't like it; I put it down for a minute and he peed on it.)
