I enjoy reading about wonderful people doing selfless acts of kindness. Can someone tell me what a milk bag is?

I know milk bags are used alot.  I have seen them in restaurents and large commercial food places.  Many "milk machines" (like a self-serve soda machine in fast food places) have bulk quantity milk bags inside.

In Canada we buy our milk in 3 plastic bags that equal 4 litres of milk. The 3 bags are inside of another plastic bag made of stronger plastic than most plastic bags. I would think this outer bag is what is being used. I've used them when making plastic bag totes and to make flowers as an applique on the totes. The milk bags I get have bright purple on them and are pretty.

Can you pour the milk out of the bags in to a glass or do you have to pour the milk in a pitcher first?

I'm going to photograph the milk, bags and how we use them. I know it all sounds funny to you but it really works well. Wink

Here are the pictures of the milk bags and how we use them.
These are the milk pouches and the outside bag that I believe is what is being used...I use the outside bag as plarn.

This is one of the milk pouches inside the plastic pitcher...the red thing hanging on the edge is the cutter to make a perfect pouring hole by just cutting the corner of the pouch.

The white container is how we stack them in the fridge...nice and neat

Voila...I'm about to have a cup of tea...see the perfect pour!

Very interesting, Maria!  Thanks for sharing the great pics.  So now I am curious about the pitcher you are using.  Is is a special one that people buy to use specifically with the milk pouches?  I see the little hook looking gizmo...so there must be a locked down lid for the pitcher(?)  Now I am wondering if the milk stays fresher longer in the plastic pouches.

No there is no lock down lid...that is how the milk sits in the fridge. The red gizmo is the actual cutter for the milk pouch, it has a blade and you cut the corner at an angle with it. I use that instead of scissors only because it clips to the pitcher and is always at hand. That kind of pitcher is made specifically for the milk pouches and only cost about $2 at any grocery store.
It may stay fresh longer because only one bag is open at a time instead of in a jug.
I hope that all makes sense now and you can see the outside bag that can be used for making plarn totes etc. The plastic is pretty strong.
