I emailed this source to check on continued need and availability of yarn etc,....Recieved mail back immediately that they continue to need liners. I will gladly forward the e-mail to anyone interested. If you don't hear from me right away don't worry I will get back to you when I get home from work.
Great post Pooh!

Tweed, if you can forward to me it would be great.  Not up to the DPN's yet but I could keep it for reference as I get better at things. Wink

Last year (2007) my husband's friend who was in Iraq at the time, mentioned about how cold it gets at night and how the troops need helmet liners to keep warm.  Hubby mentioned this to me (his friend didn't know I knit/crochet) and how 35 were needed for his platoon.  I told Hubby I would knit as many as I could - I mentioned it to Mom who who belongs to a knit/crochet club in the Senior Citizen Center.... she mentioned it to her group (named: The Happy Hookers) and before long I had 85 helmet liners to send.  Hubby sent them over to his buddy and feedback stated that the extra liners were snapped up in no time !!  The Happy Hookers received many thank you notes from the troops and all of us feel we did a great job for our guys.  I know for a fact & from experience that any helmet liners sent will be greatly appreciated.

I've got 10 already completed that I send to Operation Gratitude for the troops.  The guys and gals really appreciate them. Cheesy

I don't knit, but I do crochet; does anyone have a pattern for crocheting the helmet liners?  My husband was a Marine and I feel obligated to "Pay it Forward."  Would appreciate any help with finding a pattern that I could crochet.

Check this site. There appear to be a number of approved patterns for those who crochet.  Grin
