What I was reading today (I believe on USA Today.com) was that the US is going to demand that all resellers of used children's toys, clothing and shoes will have to test each individual item, including all the little pieces and parts of toys, for lead and chemical content.  Sounds like a nice idea, but the problems lies in the price of the tests.  If each second-hand and consignment store has to test ever kids item they want to sell, it will get very expensive and most likely, run them out of business.  Such a shame that our government wants to make a positive change by protecting our children, but didn't stop to think about what it would do to small businesses.

Maybe they should test these items at the border before letting them in from China, rather than putting all the costs on the "little people" would can barely afford to make a living now as it is.

Ok, I'm done.  I'm stepping down from the soapbox now  ;-)

I was just hearing this kind of news on TV the other night.  Major negative impact on small businesses.  There is, so far, no defined "consideration" in the proposed government mandate on this subject.  Another broad sweeping decision that wants to be rushed along with no in depth thought as to implications and consequences.  Ok---jumping off of MY soapbox before it gets kicked out from under me.

I just read this this morning. Thanks for posting. I still wonder where it leaves us after Feb 10th. I wrote a letter regarding this question to the Consumer Protection Agency. Will not hold my breath for an answer.
