 Undecided
I crochet alot. As a non-partnered parent, I do alot of Heartmade gifts because they cost less in money. So.......a while back I made an afghan for my 12 yr. old daughter. I was proud of myself as I had it wrapped and put away before Turkey day.
About December 14th or 15th I decided that since the afghan was put, and she hadn's a clue, I would take the left over yarn and do some mix and match type squares.
As we were watching the box together that night she turned to me and said,"Mom, I don't know what you're making, but I hope its not for me."
?"Why not?"
"That is the ugliest yarn I've ever seen in my life!"
Guess who spent the next week working on the new afghan?

I'm kinda sorry she didn't know...if she did, she might not of said that. I'm sure she shouldn't of said that. I'd die to have one! I only have one, and I can't even tell if it's crochet or knit. I wish to have one, but I am the crocheter of my family...my brother knits, and I've picked up on it, too.

Oh yeah!  Kids are great.   They sure do have a way with words or lack there of or the worst timing.  It was a good thing you had to work on another one.  And, I'm sure who ever received the other one or will receive the other one will definitely love it.  I'm always told that I have patience of a saint.  But those people are wrong about that.  I just don't have the patience to make a huge afgahn.  I started one about 20 years ago...it's still in the bag....it's still not finished.....   I'm just glad I made it white....don'e have to worry too much with matching the dye lot when I do get back to it.

Did she like the one you eventually gave her?  I sure hope so.  One day, way down the road from now, you will have to tell her this story.  A remember when you have your own kids,  pay backs are a !@#(*@$&(*#%.  Those times sure do have a way with "what goes around, comes around".

This is one of those times when there's a boyfriend sitting next to her and you're trying to make small talk moments.  Put this one in your file drawer.
