I am thinking of using this patter for my Aran project.
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/twisted-cable-scarf
now I need to find yarn, I don't do neutral/natural colors (I am sick to death of anything in the brown family), but I don't want too dark, I want the cables to show.

Here's another nice aran scarf.  It looks like it would be very comfortable and warm ~

are you going to try dying some.  I've looked at it like 3 times since you posted the link & I am leaning towards dying (I like bright colors, not big on whites & neutrals),  It looks so beautiful, I think I am going to request samples of some, the Gaia (sp?) you bought & a couple others.

Awesome I never thought of dying it, I would not even know how...
It is sure a thought.
do you dye it before or after you make the item?
They are so sweet too when you call.
I can also send you the sample he sent me of the gaia if u like.

Thank but that'k OK I requested my samples.  I have no idea about dying.  The last time i dyed was when I did batik in art class in college.

One of the sample I requested is called Licorice Twist , it says "One ply will absorb more pigment than the other three, creating a twist effect when dyed" that is what made think of dying it.

I don't think it is hard, I'm not sure if you dye the yarn or the finished piece.  You'd have to die the yarn if you wanted to do a two color piece.  Not sure if you can dunk the skein or if you want to loosen it somehow so it dyes evenly.  I'll have to do some research, I'll post a questionin the forum too.

I noticed that Catnip sold dyes, color selection was limited, I'll look around the local craft store, always used RIT dyes in the past not sure if they work with wool, I know they work with cotton, done tye-dye with them & the batik, which is on muslin.
