I love how you did his face! I'm doing my first crocheted teddy bear. When I stuffed him, the stitches look too far apart, so I think I'm going to try again with a smaller hook. When you joined the body parts, did you use a mattress stitch? I'm wondering whether there is a different joining stitch when the two pieces are not flat!!

Thank you everyone!
Hi crochetnurse! I used a free pattern and followed it completely and now I can't find it. My stitches look too far apart on his feet. I remember I used dental floss and stitched the two arms together at the shoulders going right through the body, but can't remember exactly how I did it(it took me forever to make him). I'll see if I can find the pattern for him and send you a link.

Hi! I know that I've been away for awhile - hubby and I have been fixing up the house - painting, putting in new wood floors, etc. No time to crochet. Eventually, I couldn't take it any longer and just had to pick up a hook!
Interesting idea, using dental floss to attach the body parts. I was going to use the same yarn that I made it with and some how join the parts together, but now that sounds like it would add a lot of bulk. Dental floss would definitely be less bulky, but my bear is pretty big - 12 1/2 inches high. I'm not sure dental floss would be strong enough.
My pattern is not helpful, it simply says to sew the body parts together - but I don't know how to do that. Can anyone help me?

I LOVE that Bear!!!!!!!! I have made him also (for my youngest Grandson, with a mama and a baby bear to make the whole family. I did not use the chenille, though. Didn't want the special care washing for a kid's toy). Can't wait to see your's. The dental floss WILL be strong enough to seam with but I would make sure to use a good quality brand. The problem is the matching of colors since floss is generally white of mint green. I just wove the body parts of mine with a strand of the same yarn and it works just fine. Mattress stitch where you can, or weave / sew uniformly st to st from one side or piece to the other. Do it neatly and there is no added bulk. I promise! I've sewn tons of toys together like that. BTW, the dental floss is real good for sewing buttons on baby clothes, etc. to assure the buttons don't come off and get swallowed!
